The norteño group Pesado, originally known as Grupo Pesado, was formed by Beto Zapata (frontman, accordion) and Pepe Elizondo (bajo sexto, vocals) in 1993 in Nueva Leon, Mexico. They debuted with the album Ayudame a Olvidar. Llego el Amor, released in 1994, achieved gold status, and in 1995 the group scored a major hit with "Eso Me Gusta."

Pesado released several albums that sold to gold and platinum status. Piensame un Momento (2006) continued the streak and earned the group a GRAMMY nomination for Best Norteño Album. The groups has released 21 albums to date with the latest album, Solo Contigo, released in 2009.

El Trono de Mexico, founded in 2004, is a regional Mexican group that specializes in duranguense music. El Trono de Mexico’s members are Everardo Ávila Marcelino (lead vocals, musical director), Carlos Enrique Martínez Cruz (drums), Luis Alberto López Terán (percussion, tambora), Duani Ávila Marcelino (vocals, keyboards), Yovany Bautista Morales and Odilón Ávila Marcelino.

El Trono de Mexico’s first four albums are Soy Dos Veces Mexicano (2004), El Pesudo (2005), El Muchacho Alegre (2006) and Fuego Nuevo (2007). The latter two albums spawned some of the group’s biggest hits, including "No Te Apartes de Mí," "Ganas de Volver Amar" and "Se Fue."

In 2007, the group reissued El Muchacho Alegre and Fuego Nuevo, and then released a best-of compilation, Las Famosas del Trono: Grandes Éxitos (2008). In 2008, El Trono de Mexico released the album Cruzando Fronteras.
