The Daniel and Ada Rice Education Center is a therapeutic day school program whose task is to provide emotional support and accademic opportunities to children who have been unable to succees in community school settings due to emotional, learning and behavioral difficulties. REC believes that ALL children can learn and reach their potential. We strive to build in each child a sense of confidence in his/her own abilities that promotes independence in the selection of responsible choices and the mastery of academic goals. We seek to develop relationships among our students that are built upon respect, trust, responsibility and generosity. REC works to create a learning environment that is both emotionally and physically safe: one that nutures both the heart and the mind. Throughout the school day, we seek to stimulate a natural curiosity and promote an attitude for lifelong learning so that the individual needs of each child are met and developed into solid roots from which to grow. We help students cope with the day to day demands they face as we strive to prepare them to return to the community school setting. January 1999
