Built in 1914, Oakton is one of Evanston's oldest and most beautiful schools. Glazed tile inlays and vivid murals (1930's WPA commissions) still adorn the walls. Located on spacious wooded grounds in a neighborhood of single-family homes and vintage apartment buildings, it is the ideal place for students to learn, not only from their teachers, but from each other. It is an ideal place for families to come together.
Our Motto,"Creating a Climate of Excellence" represents our commitment to all students of Oakton School. Our goal is to help each child realize his or her maximum potential. Our faculty has received recognition for their contributions to the field of education. Staff members belong to District 65 curriculum committees and many have earned advanced degrees in the field of Education and related studies.
Taking advantage of sophisticated training programs available to them, teachers are able to offer students the latest innovations in classroom instruction. A Reading Resource Center was created to help students at all levels develop and improve their skills using a large selection of supplemental reading materials.
Gifted students get the chance to thrive at Oakton. The district sponsored Battle of The Books, Enriched Fine Arts, yearly guest author and illustrator visits and Artist-in-Residence programs are some of the opportunities that enrich their studies.
