Over 30 years ago, a group of passionate volunteers from Childserv wanted to raise money so children with disabilities would benefit. At that time the Second Time Around Shop on Lincoln Avenue in Skokie, Illinois began and the store flourished. In 1985, Joyce Buehler and Lois Lloyd joined the venture representing SHORE Community Services. They combined volunteers and efforts to raise more money and awareness. The store received many donations and the number of customers increased, so relocation to a bigger and better Storefront was necessary. Relocation to our current address at 43-2-S Oakton in Skokie soon followed. Many generous donations of items from residents in Skokie and Surroundina Communities helped Second Time Around earned many thousands of dollars for Childserv charities and SHORE.
In 2000, the CHILDSERV volunteers moved on and the SHORE volunteers began to run the shop on their own. Today, we continue that tradition of success and continue to search for new avenues to raise funds. We reach out to a wider range of Northern Illinois communities through advertising and this website. More customers are finding our shop and returning time and time again to hunt for bargains and that possible treasure of a lifetime! Our wonderful donors continue to give us quality gently used items. We also continue to seek new opportunities to increase our store stock. We currently partner with the Hawthorn Disney Store in Vernon Hills who donates wonderful merchandise often.
