Who we are
Since its founding in 1857, St. James Lutheran School has been dedicated to enhancing the spiritual, intellectual, social, and emotional growth of its students through Christian education. Today, St. James provides both early childhood and elementary education, blending progressive teaching practices into a solid, grounded curriculum that also includes religious instruction based on the Holy Bible.
Individual Attention
At St James, we maintain small class sizes to address the individual needs and abilities of every child, allowing students to progress at their own pace and to develop close relationships with classmates and teachers. Each classroom is staffed with qualified and caring professionals who help in the development of specific programs and materials for the students. Through home visits and family conferences, parents and teachers work together to best meet each child's needs.
Educational Excellence
St James is fully accredited from three accreditation agencies including the National Association of Education of Young Children. Our teachers are all state certified in early childhood or elementary education and regularly attend continuing education programs, seminars and workshops. As a result of our teaching staff's dedication to excellence, our students typically score high on achievement tests and are well-prepared to attend high schools such as Northside Prep, Walter Payton, Lincoln Park, and St. Ignatius.
